St John ACT also offers a flexible range of non-accredited training to suit all needs. These courses provide a certificate of attendance and unless specifically requested do not include an assessment. Non-accredited training is designed to provide basic first aid education to the community or build workplace specific first aid knowledge or skills upon the skills acquired in HLTAID003 Provide First Aid.

St John ACT is happy to tailor a non-accredited course or workshop to your specific needs and audience. Please contact coursebookings@stjohnact.com.au or ring reception on  02 6282 2399 to discuss your needs.

Some specific non-accredited course offered by St John ACT are:

Caring For Kids

This course is a friendly and casual course designed to meet the first aid needs of parents, grandparents, carers and members of the public who may be entrusted with the care of babies and children. Babes in arms are welcome to attend with their parents. While we offer public courses, we can also run private courses for families, neighbourhood groups and mother's groups (note a minimum of 10 people is required).

Note that professional carers within the childcare industry are likely to require nationally accredited training and should complete HLTAID003 Provide First Aid rather than this course.

Caring For Kids

Junior First Aid

Junior First Aid is a course designed to teach children aged 8 to 13 basic first aid.  It is affordable and is held each school holidays.  The course contains a wealth of first aid knowledge, skills demonstration and practice and some fun and games. It has recently been restructured to cover the majority of first aid required for relevant cub and scout badges.

Junior First Aid

Anaphylaxis Workshop

For those schools and groups that do not require the Nationally Recognised Training qualifications for Anaphylaxis but still wish to learn or refresh how to prevent, recognise and treat anaphylactic reactions, St John ACT runs Anaphylaxis Workshops.  These can be done for groups of 10 or more on site after school or at any other convenient time. The workshop includes instruction and practice in safely using both adrenaline auto-injectors on the Australian market, Anapen and Epipen.

Automated External Defibrillator Workshop

With more workplaces installing Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), this workshop is designed to give staff and members of the community confidence to use them.  We can come to your work place and show you how best to use the specific AED types that you have, in your specific environment. We will also provide practice in using AEDs with our generic training models. Minimum groups size is 10 people.

Specific Requests

If your workplace or community group has specific requests for First Aid training or advice, please feel free to contact us.  We are happy to work with you to provide you with just the training or information that you need. We can tell you what can be done under Nationally Recognised Training and what we can do as non-accredited training.  We can create contextualised courses for your group and we have trainers experienced in a wide range of fields. We can also run first aid scenarios for your group to refresh or test their first aid skills, procedures or preparedness.

Please contact coursebookings@stjohnact.com.au in the first instance and they will put you in contact with the St John ACT Training Manager who can discuss your needs with you.

Training Partnerships

If your workplace or community group regularly trains large numbers of staff in first aid, consider forming a training partnership with St John ACT. We can train and support one or more of your staff members and set them up as a St John ACT Associate Trainer, giving them the ability to run nationally accredited St John courses within your organisation under our Registered Training Organisation. This not only can work out cheaper, but adds flexibility to the way courses are delivered. For example, having an in-house first aid trainer better supports splitting Apply First Aid up over several days or weeks. Associate trainers are provided with updated training and first aid information at least twice a year and can call upon the St John ACT Training Department for help and advice at any time.

St John ACT has training partnerships with some schools and are very proud to facilitate high school and college students attaining HLTAID003 through this program.

If a training partnership is of interest to you, please contact the St John ACT Training Manager on training@stjohnact.com.au or by phoning 02 6282 2399.

Community Education

St John ACT has a goal of making first aid a part of everybody's life. We aim to have at least one person in every ACT household equipped and able to provide first aid in an emergency situation. To this end St John ACT funds some non-accredited training to those in our community who would not normally have the opportunity to participate in first aid training. Currently there are several programs in the Community Education sector:

We hope to grow into more community areas as time goes by and are interested in forming funding partnerships with those organisations or companies able to sponsor community first aid education.

If you are a community group and you are considering seeking funding through government grants, or other means, to provide first aid training to specific at risk groups we would be interested in working with you.

The majority of community education projects, as well as our first aid services work in the community is funded through providing commercial first aid courses to companies, organisations and individuals as well as first aid kit sales and replenishment. As a not for profit community group, all profits are fed back in to the community.
