St John Ambulance Australia (ACT) is a vibrant and growing organisation.  By becoming a member of St John, you will be joining a dedicated team of people interested in helping the community. St John values the contribution made by all its members and we take great pride in the level of training and support we provide.  Everyone brings with them a vast range of skills and we hope that if you choose to move on from St John, those skills will have grown.  Development of our people is a priority.

First Aid is a vital cog in the health services as a whole.  Those critical first minutes can mean the difference and St John will train, equip and support you so that you are confident to handle such situations.  You will gain an enormous amount from your time with St John, and may never put your skills into practice, but it is reassuring to know that you have those skills, even when at home or at work.

Our first aid community service takes on two roles:

  • Operations Branch (First Aid Services):  Our familiar “Black and White” volunteers that everyone sees at events such as the Canberra Show, Skyfire, Brumbies and Raiders matches.
  • Community Care Branch:  Helping the less fortunate members of our community by teaching them valuable life saving skills.

But volunteering with St John is not only about First Aid.  To continue to provide the support we do, there is a vast network of other people striving to ensure our ‘first aiders’ are prepared.  Volunteer trainers to instruct our members; an equipment and logistics team; fundraisers; volunteer recruiters.  Each contribution is vital and should you wish to offer your skills in a support role, St John will always welcome you. And of course, you can help in all ways if you like!
